A suzani was once a bride's dowry, begun at her birth and finished by the women of the family in time for her wedding. Nurata's are known for their fine, dense stitch and a palette of madder red, indigo and gold on cream cotton. Dilbar's atelier employs twenty-two embroiderers working from home; a large panel takes three to five months.
