Each piece is made by hand; small variations are part of its character.

Dry clean, or hand wash cold with a mild wool detergent, roll in a towel and dry flat away from sun. Iron on the reverse at silk setting. Natural dyes soften slightly with the first wash — this is expected.

Embroidered by a circle of women in the foothills above Bukhara.

A suzani was once a bride's dowry, begun at her birth and finished by the women of the family in time for her wedding. Nurata's are known for their fine, dense stitch and a palette of madder red, indigo and gold on cream cotton. Dilbar's atelier employs twenty-two embroiderers working from home; a large panel takes three to five months.
