Hand wash cold with wool soap, or dry clean. Dry flat. Camel wool does not pill and needs washing far less often than you would expect — airing is usually enough.

Camel and fine sheep wool, hand-knitted in the coldest city in Kazakhstan.

Bactrian camels grow a downy undercoat to survive minus forty on the central steppe, and it makes one of the warmest, lightest fibres in the world. Steppe Wool combs it by hand each spring, spins it undyed in its natural honey and smoke tones, and knits scarves, throws and cardigans in a cooperative of women in Karaganda.
